Master Jade Bot technology! Learn to fly like a pro with Flappy Bot!

Being the fastest Kart racer alive didn’t work out and starting my own crypto currency and trying to get you to clean your inventory was doomed from the start. But After 10 years I decided it was time to make another career switch from content creator to edutainment software!

Sub- and supersample resolution calculator

After a lot of digging around I've finally figured out how the sub- and super sampling options work:

  • The subsample option scales down your resolution to 70% of your native resolution
  • The supersample option scales your resolution up to 150%

Now there is a cutoff point where these stop working:

  • The subsample resolution has a minimum width of 800 pixels, anything below will use native resolution instead.
  • The supersample resolution cuts off at 2880 pixels (150% of 1920)

So what does this mean in bookah speech?

  • Subsampling does not work on resolutions below 800 pixels width
  • Supersampling has reduced effect on resolutions above 1920 pixels width
  • Supersampling bugs out the bloom effect at all at resolutions above 2880 pixels width

End of Dragons First Look Countdown

We'll get our first look at End of Dragons in July, so I've put together another countdown page just for the occasion!

Basic ascended feasts tool

Trying to find the right ascended feast can be a royal pain with 60 different varieties, because I wasn't a big fan of the wiki filter I've decided to quickly whip together a basic tool myself.

I'll look into adding more language options to it later

FOV Calculator

Over the years a lot of people keep asking "what’s the default FOV of Guild Wars 2?" and "Why aren’t there numbers next to the slider?".

The answer is a bit complicated because GW2 uses Vertical FOV (which is probably the best option when you have a third person game that can be played in a window using all kinds of weird resolutions).

When people generally talk about FOV they are almost always referring to Horizontal FOV instead (which is the prefered way for first person shooters)

Now it’s not that hard to convert vertical to horizontal values with a bit of math so just for fun I’ve put together a small tool that will tell you which horizontal FOV you will get depending on the position of the slider and your resolution.

Mist rift events

After going through the mists rift events waaaay too many times I wrote down a lot of data and made a timer out of it.
I happen to have stumbled upon on a bug several times where it's possible that you enter an instance from the previous sequence instead (which is quite annoying because your next chance wont be over an hour later)

SkrittCoin gone open source

I took my darn time to finally get things sorted but just like Charrio Kart I've made SkrittCoin completely open source!
Even though there's still some spaghetti code and it lacks proper documentation from time to time hopefully it will give you a bit of insight in how a chunk based system and seeded map generation made it possible to run on low end devices like mobile phones.
Enjoy!

Updated portal incursions schedule

After writing down a lot of data points down all day and asking around to verify things I've (hopefully) figured out the updated portal incursions schedule:
  • Each Map will only be invaded ~3.5 times a day (it was 12 times before)
  • The schedule has been changed from a 6 hour rotation to a weekly rotation
  • Each day of the week has a different schedule making it easy for you to catch up if you only play a few minutes a day
This is still subject to change and I'm not entirely sure if the schedule is fixed but so far it doesn't appear to be affected by things like patches and server resets.

Tooltip Builder Update

About three years ago I made an easy to use site which lets you design your own Guild Wars 2 tooltips and after a lot of requests to include some of the HoT icons I've just added over 1100 new icons to it!

Guild Wars 2 update countdown tool

By now you probably know the drill, almost every Tuesday a lot of "will there be a patch today?" or "when will the patch go live?" posts show up on the forums, discord and reddit. For me it's very easy to tell when the next major patch will most like go live based on gemstore items and previous updates and I still had my old PoF countdown page laying around collecting dust. So I decided to retrofit it to a patch countdown page that I will try to keep up to date as much as possible.

Orrian Syllabary Translator

With /u/barefootmatthew recently sharing the Orrian Syllabary I decided to create a fun little side-project that would automatically translate any text to Orrian. Some helpful information:
  • Only regular A to Z characters are allowed. Any other characters or numbers will be ignored
  • Press the little icon at the right side to increase and decrease the font size
  • Mouse over an Orrian word to see what originally meant
  • Read more about Orrian on the wiki

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

An age old question keeps coming back every time it's patch day: "When will the patch go live?!". So I decided to grab the log from my @GW2Version bot and made some graphs with the data I collected in 2015. Answer: Tuesday, after 16:00 UTC.

Enjoy! (hopefully without using the wrong data this time)
Here's a couple more adjusted to specific timezones WITH DST offsets

Basic interactive map of Tyria

A long time ago I made a basic interactive map showing all PoI's, Hero Points, Vistas and Waypoints in Tyria. I don't have any future plans for it but it's fun to explore nonetheless. Enjoy!
Comes with:
  • All points of interest in the world with labels
  • Absolutely no optimization (zoom out at your own risk)
  • No support, guarantees or money back

Open source laurel to gold converter web-app

I've just released a silly side project of my trading post side project (that's a lot of side projects).

What?

This web-app will show a list of laurel items you can purchase at the vendors and calculate the actual worth in gold using real-time data from the trading post.:
  • It uses T6 Material bags because these currently have the highest laurel to gold conversion. It uses real time trading post data to generate 3 possible outcomes:
    1. LOW: worst case scenario, this is the least amount of money you could make with these bags
    2. AVERAGE: the average amount of gold you will get out of 1 bag
    3. HIGH: you got lucky, this is the maximum amount of gold you could've made
  • Some items require globs of ectoplasm as well. These are fetched from the trading post and are added to the final price

Why?

Why not, it's just a side project and can be useful if you have to make a tough decision between gold or cats.

But why a web app??

Unlike regular android/ios apps a web app is just a website that's optimized for mobile devices and has a manifest file so it can be added to your home screen to function like a regular app. On the plus side it works just as well on your home computer and obscure devices like windows mobile. (also did I mention it's free, no ads and open source?)

ok.. maybe I should give it a try..

Great!

Specialization Calculator update

Just a small heads up on the specialization calculator and the changes we've made to it over the past week thanks to your feedback.
  • All tooltips now show their internal cooldown.
  • Short URLs are now in place. They no longer break reddit or twitter posts and are much easier on the eyes.
  • Very old URLs (made on the day of release) will no longer function.
  • Dragonhunter and Chronomancer have been implemented along with placeholders for the Tempest, Druid and Reaper.
  • Elite specializations now have a flavor color to differentiate them from the core specializations.
Of course any feedback, bug reports or suggestions you have are much appreciated, enjoy!

Specialization Calculator

As you might have seen in WP's elementalist video a few days ago I've been working on a trait builder that mimics the upcoming in game version of it. To keep things short:
  • All traits have been written down by /u/dulfy and are based on last week's ready up stream
  • The elementalist tooltips have extra flavor thanks to /u/WoodenPotatoes helping out
  • Revenant traits are based on what we know of from the stress test
  • You can share builds by copying the URL and changing your traits will automatically update the link
  • More flavor will be added to the tooltips the coming week(s)
If you have any suggestions, complaints or other messages just leave them below!

Link

Update

  • URLs no longer fill your browser history on HTML5 capable browsers
  • URLs are now human readable (old links will work for a while but will be removed in the future)
  • Fixed a bug with wilderness survival not fitting inside the box

Gixxcel - A GW2 String extractor and archiver

As you might have noticed I've mined a lot of gemstore items the last couple of weeks. A lot of people asked me how I obtained this information and the answer would be: Gixxcel, a custom build tool that decodes the GW2 strings and archives them.
I've spend a bit of time cleaning my messy code and decided to release it as an open source project. (Don't expect proper error handling or safe thread calling, it just does the job). Because I don't want to host binaries (executables) a simple how to get started.
